News Anchor (photo at right) Pat's father, John Callaghan, worked for WNAC radio and
TV for about 21 years, starting in 1953. Mr. Callaghan was born
in Pittsfield, and started his broadcasting career at age 16,
working at WBEC and WBRK in Pittsfield. After a stint at WMAL in
Washington, D.C., Callaghan returned to Massachusetts to work at
WNAC radio, and was heard across New England on the Yankee
Network News Service. He also joined the staff at Channel 7.
Callaghan is credited with coming up with the "Cardiac Kids"
nickname for the 1967 Red Sox. After WNAC, he spent some time
in state government before retiring to Great Barrington, where
he died March 5, 2008, at 81 years of age. |
